TEENS GO OVERNIGHT CAMPING WITH GRIT PROGRAM

Our final GRIT outing of the year had our very own Lucy, who has an extensive background in boating expeditions, leading us on an overnight canoe trip in the Saint Regis Canoe Area. Prior to hitting our campsite, we were outfitted by aptly named St. Regis Canoe Outfitters with necessary gear and boats. Friday evening we spent the bulk of our time in camp, with the teens taking charge in setting up their tents, making dinner, preparing a fire, cleaning up from dinner and preparing for the day ahead.

The next morning, without phones or watches, teens were woken up to break down camp and make breakfast. We greatly appreciated "Hunters Liquid Gold" Maple Syrup, donated by the same named GRIT member, on our pancakes. We then grabbed our boats and hit the water in pairs.

All in all, the teens paddled over 6KM, portaged(carried their boats overland from one body of water to the next) 4 times, took turns leading navigation, observed or took part in a "T-rescue" and spent the day enjoying beautiful conditions on the waters of Polliwog Pond, Horseshoe Pond and Follensby Pond. We couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up this year's GRIT programming.

Many thanks to Adirondack Foundation for making this program possible! #TeensOffScreens #GRIT
